Final Tape from Lorient, France is about to release Rites a new dark synthwave Ep. He kindly accepted to answer a few of our questions. Check out the interview.
Headphones For Robots: Who is Final Tape?
Final Tape: Final Tape is an electronic darksynth project with a lot of distortion and brass Moog.
HFR: How did you start making music? Could you tell us a bit about your music influences?
FT: I started music when I was 7. I tried piano at first. I remember my first synthesizer, a little Yamaha with 25 keys. I played in my first punk band with it …a few years later. I learned guitar cause I’ve always wanted to release a metal project, it is my best music influences, I still play metal in a band called DIREWOLVES since 2011
HFR: You have just released Rites, your second EP. What can you tell us about it and your music evolution since Ouija Sunrise, your first EP?
FT: Rites is just the continuity of Ouija Sunrise, with more sustain in guitar synth, and more attack and sidechain in the drum kit.
HFR: What was your approach on writing music? Which are the steps you make when songwriting? Do you mix and master your tracks yourself?
FT: First I make the structure in my head. I try to find nice breaks and transitions, and then I set up the drum. I make loops and try to find cool brass and lead synths . I add arrangements and samples. About the mix, I did it with a friend who also makes the mastering.
HFR: Could you tell us a bit about your “go to” equipment? What do you use when writing a song and which are your favorite instruments?
FT: I work on Ableton 9, I use a simple midi keyboard and an Akai APC 40, for the next opus I think I m going to try to integrate real electric guitar, cause it is still my favorite instrument 🙂
HFR: What is the story of your EP artwork? It could be a horror film poster. What attracts you in horror?
FT: I ‘ve always wanted to integrate movies influences in my music bands. Horror and sci-fi movies are the stories of my life. I have used one of my favorite punchlines in a title I.I.B.W.C.K.I :”If it bleeds we can kill it” from John McTiernan 1987 Predator. You can find other samples of my favorite 80s movies in Final Tape.
HFR: Final Tape in a near future? Will we see you live?
FT: Probably yes! I m working on it
HFR: Last words?
FT: Thanks Headphone for robots for the interview and enjoy my new EP, see you soon
