Interview with Genesis’84

Today, a new interview with Genesis’84 who has just released a new album on Ledokol Records:

Headphones For Robots: What is the genesis of Genesis’84?

GENESIS’84: Well, I associated my nickname with SEGA. That was my first console which I was really in love with. Most of us should remember this great time, you know. And after all, I decided to use it to make my nickname. Later I’ve been trying to make it unique, I added prefix 1984, which means the year of course, not a pin-code, haha. And after all of my efforts, I got a nickname like GENESIS’84. So I think that the origin of my nickname is a childhood.

HFR: How did you start making music? Could you tell us a bit about your influences?

G84:   I started making music around 3 years ago. At that time I just got the one thing like – you can listen to music, but also you can create your own stuff, right? At least you can try it. What exactly that I did.

The main thing I inspired by is cyberpunk, neo-noir, future. So I guess this is the core influence.

HFR: You have just released SYNDICATE WARRIOR: ABSOLUTE TERROR, a new album. It appears that you are moving from synthwave and darksynth. Where are you heading to? What do you think about the evolution of synthwave?

G84: Yeah! Honestly, I don’t know where I’m heading to. My last release sounds different if it compares with previous albums. I wanna reach a really pure cyberpunk sound which combines a lot of stuff like cinematic synthwave, dark electro, darksynth, EBM and even EDM.

I can’t say anything bad about the evolution. Synthwave is evolving with every album. Besides, synthwave is divided into many sub-genres, which are evolving too. Just need to compare releases of 2014, and nowadays albums. I think we can get the result!

HFR: What was your approach on writing this album? Which are the steps you make when songwriting?

G84: I spent around 6 months on writing this album. And there some steps of songwriting like idea, vibe and realization. The new album is the story of fighting against the syndicate. I just needed to show this vibe to people. Don’t know yet, could or not, but I wish I could! I like everything that is happening in the genre at this moment. A lot of good stuff, so many sick artists, like Daniel Deluxe, Den Terminus, Scandroid, Perturbator, Lazerhawk. A lot of names who bring something new to the genre every time.

HFR: Could you tell us a bit about your “go to” equipment? What do you use when writing a song and which are your favorite instruments?

G84: The main instrument is my PC, my keyboard, and mouse, hell yeah! I just have a workstation and some software for creating some good or not music.

HFR: And in a near future, will you go live? Do you have other projects?

G84: I don’t know yet, but it would be good! Yeah, I have some ideas for the new project with my good friend, however, we still don’t get when we have to start. I hope that 2018 is gonna be productive!

HFR: Last words?

G84:  Yeah, sure! First of all big thanks for this interview and also I wanna thank everyone who supports me, this is really important! And of course big up to my brothers from Ledokol, we pave the waterways! Stay tuned and take care of yourself.
